Avalanche Acquire Kadri in Deadline Blockbuster

The Colorado Avalanche made a bold statement ahead of the NHL trade deadline by reacquiring veteran center Nazem Kadri from the Calgary Flames. Colorado sent a conditional 2028 first-round pick, a conditional 2027 second-round pick, forward Victor Olofsson, and prospect Max Curran to Calgary in exchange for Kadri and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

Calgary will retain 20% of Kadri's $7 million cap hit for the remaining three years of his contract. The 35-year-old forward has been remarkably durable, appearing in all 82 games each of the past three seasons and recording a career-high 35 goals last year. Kadri previously won a Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022 before leaving as a free agent.

The Avalanche, currently first in the league with 91 points, are clearly going all-in on another championship run. This acquisition follows their earlier trade for Nicolas Roy from Toronto, giving Colorado a formidable third-line center behind Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson.
