The San Francisco 49ers and star left tackle Trent Williams have agreed to a two-year, $50 million contract extension, his agency Elite Loyalty Sports announced Monday. The deal includes $37 million fully guaranteed and a $22 million signing bonus, keeping Williams under contract through the 2028 season.

Williams becomes the first non-quarterback in NFL history to surpass $400 million in career contracts and $225 million in guarantees. The extension resolves months of contract negotiations after the 49ers declined to exercise a $10 million option bonus in March. General manager John Lynch had indicated talks were intensifying at the NFL annual meeting in Phoenix last month.

The 49ers faced a difficult decision with Williams, who was set to enter the 2026 season with no guaranteed money and a $38.84 million salary cap hit. Releasing him before June 1 would have cost $34.15 million in dead money while saving just $4.69 million. With no proven replacement on the roster, the team chose to retain the 12-time Pro Bowler who has expressed desire to play until age 40.
