ESPN's annual survey of NFL executives, coaches, and scouts has revealed the top 10 running backs for the 2026 season. The rankings, in their seventh year, focus on current performance rather than future projections or career achievements. This year's list sees a dynamic shift, with young stars like Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs challenging veteran dominance, reflecting a growing appreciation for versatile backfield talent.

The survey highlights the evolving market for running backs. Following significant contracts for Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley, several backs have secured deals between $14 million and $16 million annually. This trend is expected to continue as players like Robinson and Gibbs near potential market-resetting agreements.

Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons narrowly edged out Jahmyr Gibbs for the top spot, driven by his league-leading 2,498 scrimmage yards in 2025 and his ability to create positive plays even against poor blocking. Gibbs, despite receiving numerous first-place votes, landed at No. 2. Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey, both former top-ranked players, fell to third and fourth respectively, acknowledging slight dips in production while still being recognized for their overall impact and versatility.
