Janice S. McNair, co-founder and senior chair of the Houston Texans, has died at the age of 89. The team announced her passing on Tuesday in Houston.

McNair became the principal owner of the Texans after her husband, Bob McNair, the team's former owner, passed away in November 2018. Together, Janice and Bob were instrumental in returning an NFL franchise to Houston in 2002. Since then, the Texans have achieved a record of 174-214-1, with seven playoff wins and eight AFC South titles.

In March 2024, her son, Cal McNair, officially became the principal owner. Coach De Meco Ryans, who played for the team during Bob McNair's ownership and returned as coach in 2023, expressed his condolences, remembering McNair's kindness and her role in building a family-like organization. Ryans vowed to continue working to bring the organization new heights.
