Stroud Focuses On Football Amid Texans Contract Talks

C.J. Stroud refuses to let contract negotiations distract from his football focus despite being eligible for an extension with the Houston Texans. The Pro Bowl quarterback, whose fifth-year option for 2027 was picked up in April, says he's letting his agent handle talks. "My job is football," Stroud declared during OTAs. "Whatever happens, happens."

Stroud's three-year Texans tenure delivered two AFC South titles but also concerning regression in his counting stats. The 2023 No. 2 overall pick missed three games last season with a concussion and struggled with ball security in January's playoffs, throwing four first-half interceptions in the divisional round loss to New England.

While teammate Will Anderson secured a three-year, $150 million deal this offseason, Stroud's contract situation remains unclear. The quarterback said playoff failures only fuel his motivation as he enters his first full offseason. Coach DeMeco Ryans expressed satisfaction with Stroud's dedication as they prepare for Year 4 together.
