Head Coach Mike Mc Carthy stated the Pittsburgh Steelers are at an "impasse" with cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who remains sidelined on the physically unable to perform list due to a back injury. Mc Carthy emphasized separating business from football, noting the challenge for both the first-year staff and the player. "I would love the opportunity to coach Joey Porter... So we're at an impasse right here," he said. The organization maintains they do not negotiate contracts once the regular season starts, with no meaningful progress reported on extension talks or trade interest.

Teammates have voiced strong support for Porter. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey urged the team to pay him, stating, "We need the whole secondary out there." Inside linebacker Patrick Queen added, "He deserves it. We all love Joey... I just hope he gets paid." Porter, drafted in 2023, has been a consistent starter with interceptions each season.

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham confirmed Porter has been engaged in classroom sessions. While Porter and Ramsey were activated off PUP recently, their availability for Week 1 remains uncertain as negotiations stall.
