The Seattle Seahawks have hired San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator, sources told ESPN. The move marks a significant shift for the Super Bowl LX champions, who had initially planned to promote from within after Klint Kubiak departed for the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job.

Fleury brings seven years of experience with the 49ers, working under Kyle Shanahan since 2019. He began as a defensive quality-control coach before transitioning to offensive roles, eventually becoming tight ends coach and adding run game coordinator responsibilities last season. His background in Shanahan's West Coast offense system should provide continuity for quarterback Sam Darnold and the Seahawks' offense.

Coach Mike Macdonald interviewed four internal candidates, including quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko, who was hired by the Raiders as their non-playcalling offensive coordinator. The other candidates were run game specialist Justin Outten, tight ends coach Mack Brown, and passing game coordinator Jake Peetz. Fleury, a Maryland native who played quarterback at Maryland and Towson, began his NFL coaching career with the Buffalo Bills in 2013.
