The Los Angeles Rams have acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs in a major trade that addresses their most pressing defensive need. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams sent the No. 29 pick in the 2026 draft, along with 2026 fifth- and sixth-round picks and a 2027 third-round pick to land the three-time Pro Bowler.

This trade represents the Rams' aggressive approach to maximizing their Super Bowl window with quarterback Matthew Stafford coming off an MVP season. Los Angeles has a history of trading for veteran defensive backs, having previously acquired Marcus Peters in 2018 and Jalen Ramsey in 2019. The move comes after the team lost cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins in 2023 and faces four pending free agents at the position.

McDuffie, 26, brings elite coverage skills to a defense that allowed the NFL's second-best Total QBR to opposing quarterbacks last season. The former first-round pick has three interceptions, 34 passes defensed, and five career sacks in 56 games. His eight forced fumbles since 2022 lead all NFL cornerbacks. The Rams plan to sign McDuffie to a contract extension, solidifying their secondary for years to come.
