The Las Vegas Raiders have acquired veteran cornerback Taron Johnson from the Buffalo Bills in a trade that sends a sixth-round pick to Buffalo while the Raiders receive a seventh-round pick in return, sources told ESPN. Johnson, 29, was set to be released by the Bills before the trade was finalized.

Johnson was drafted by Buffalo in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and became a key starter, particularly in the nickel role. The Bills are transitioning to a 3-4 defensive scheme under new coordinator Jim Leonhard, which contributed to their decision to move on from the 2020 Pro Bowl alternate. Johnson will be remembered in Buffalo for his 101-yard pick-six against the Ravens in the 2020 postseason.

The Raiders, who struggled at cornerback last season, are adding much-needed experience and depth. Johnson brings eight career interceptions, 48 passes defended, and 572 tackles to a secondary that lacked talent and consistency. The trade addresses a clear need for Las Vegas as they look to improve their defensive backfield.
