Associated Press Aug 24, 2026, 07:42 PM ET BUFFALO, N. Y. -- Police have closed the investigation into the death of Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver's son. The Harris County Sheriff's Office in Texas announced the case is now considered closed following no criminal findings.

The toddler, who was a few days shy of his second birthday, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool north of Houston on June 28. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. Bills GM Brandon Beane expressed condolences on Saturday.

Oliver has requested privacy while mourning his son, also named Ed. Teammates, including quarterback Josh Allen, offered support following the preseason win at Cleveland. Allen stated, "I can't imagine what he's going through." Oliver, 28, is entering his eighth NFL season after being drafted by Buffalo in 2019 out of Houston.

He appeared with the starters in the preseason opener but has sat out recent practice due to an undisclosed injury.
