Patriots Sign Versatile Lineman to $42M Deal

The New England Patriots have agreed to a three-year, $42 million deal with versatile offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, bolstering the unit in front of quarterback Drake Maye. The reigning AFC champions made strengthening the offensive line a priority, with Vera-Tucker expected to slot in at left guard between Will Campbell and Jared Wilson.

Vera-Tucker brings significant versatility but injury concerns. Drafted 14th overall by the Jets in 2021, he has started at every offensive line position except center. However, he has played in only 43 of 85 games due to three major injuries, including a torn Achilles and torn triceps in both arms.

The Jets were so high on Vera-Tucker that they traded up for him, an unusual move for a player whose natural position isn't tackle. When healthy, he's considered an above-average run blocker who finished with the third-best pressure rate among right guards in 2024. This represents a significant risk but potential reward for New England's offensive line.
