More than 9,000 fans turned up at Polar Park for the inaugural MayeDay Family Foundation Celebrity Softball Classic. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and wife Ann Michael Maye handed a $80,000 check to Boston Children’s Hospital before the game. The event also featured a home‑run derby, golden‑arm contest and a firework finale.

In the derby’s opening round, Maye hit six homers, earning a spot in the finals with New England tackle Will Campbell and San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith. Both men tied with nine blasts in the finale, but a line‑drive from Smith was ruled out. Meanwhile, Ann Michael Maye batted left‑handed and delivered a single after Maye’s homer.

The seven‑inning game finished 17‑16 in favor of Christian Gonzalez’s Team Sox squad. Mack Hollins, playing barefoot, hit the first homer and followed it with a second. Patriots’ DeMario “Pop” Douglas won the golden‑arm contest, while Mike Vrabel, coach of the Patriots team, was introduced to the crowd before play. The night closed with fireworks.

Organizers credited the event as one of Polar Park’s largest crowds since Chris Sale’s rehab start in July 2022, drawing about 70 credentials. The derby produced 70 home runs, raising an additional $94,000 for charity, while a local high school received a $5,000 check. The MayeDay initiative now has a firm footing in New England baseball circles.
