NFL Players’ Slippers and Slides for Comfort and Recovery

Mack Hollins likes to go barefoot as often as possible, saying it strengthens his lower body and improves his connection to the ground. For most NFL players, however, choice of footwear matters in meetings, the cafeteria and the locker room, leading many to opt for informal options. "Slippers and slides, baby!" said Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon, noting the habit started in college where they learned that everything about the body matters, from feet to hamstrings.

NFL players’ feet take a beating from cleats, artificial turf and constant impact, making foot care a priority. Derick Hall of the Seahawks said walking barefoot helps stimulate healing and recovery, a point stressed by medical and strength staff. Jeff Ferguson, the Jaguars’ vice president of player health and performance, explained that the body is a kinematic chain starting with the feet, so proper footwear supports range of motion and prevents soft‑tissue injuries.

Players showcase a wide variety of slipper and slide choices. Javontae Jean‑Baptiste wears purple bear claw mules from Bravest Studios that cost $115, while Nick Martin estimates he has 10 pairs of varied slippers including wolves, dogs and sharks. Brian Thomas Jr. owns brown bear claw slippers and a pair of Incredible Hulk slippers, and Isaiah Rodgers uses Hot Wheels‑themed cleat covers. Nic Scourton’s fuzzy orange Mari slippers allegedly cost $900. Many also favor slides: Kyle Pitts Sr. uses Oofos recovery slippers, Jessie Bates III prefers Nike React X Rejuvena8 slides, and AJ Barner relies on Yoga Toes toe separators for foot relaxation.

Whether it’s slippers, regular slides, sandals or specific recovery footwear, NFL players treat their feet seriously because they are used on every play and an injury can derail a season.
