The first week of NFL free agency delivered a flurry of blockbuster deals, with several teams dramatically reshaping their rosters. ESPN's Aaron Schatz identified five franchises that have made the most significant improvements through free agency. These teams executed strategic moves to address key weaknesses while capitalizing on available talent in a market that saw many top players signed within hours of the negotiating period opening.

Carolina Panthers emerged as major winners by landing Jaelan Phillips on a four-year, $120 million contract. The 26-year-old edge rusher addresses Carolina's glaring need for pass rush help after ranking 28th in sacks last season. Phillips, who had 27 pressures for Philadelphia despite only two sacks, provides youth and upside. The Panthers also secured linebacker Devin Lloyd on a three-year, $45 million deal, considered an underrated signing given his 3.5 sacks and 194 tackles since 2024. Additional moves included offensive tackle Rasheed Walker and quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Kansas City Chiefs prioritized offensive explosiveness by signing Kenneth Walker III to a three-year, $43.05 million contract. Walker's 12 runs of 20+ yards last season addressed the Chiefs' lack of big-play rushing threats. They also added defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga on a three-year, $21 million deal, who posted an 83% stop rate against the run. The Chiefs re-signed Travis Kelce and added safety Alohi Gilman while losing key contributors like Isiah Pacheco and Gardner Minshew.
