The NFL has closed its personal conduct investigation into free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs, finding insufficient evidence of a policy violation. This follows Diggs' May acquittal on assault charges related to an incident with his private chef. The ruling clears a major obstacle in his path back to the field.

The case stemmed from a December 2 confrontation at Diggs' Dedham, Massachusetts home involving chef Jamila Adams. She alleged he slapped and choked her during a pay dispute, while Diggs' attorneys maintained the incident never occurred and questioned Adams' credibility. A Massachusetts court sided with Diggs after his February plea of not guilty.

Diggs signed a $69 million contract with the Patriots last season, serving as quarterback Drake Maye's primary target during their AFC East title push. He recorded his seventh career 1,000-yard season despite being released in March. Previously drafted by Minnesota in 2015, he also played for Buffalo and Houston.

The NFL's decision removes the final barrier preventing Diggs from signing with a new team. His representatives called the case an example of opportunistic targeting of players. Diggs can now pursue opportunities as teams evaluate his on-field performance against the off-field controversy.
