Kirk Cousins Signs with Raiders After Falcons Release

Kirk Cousins has agreed to a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, his agent announced Thursday. The four-time Pro Bowler will join a team expected to draft quarterback Fernando Mendoza first overall in this month's NFL draft. The deal reunites Cousins with first-year Raiders coach Klint Kubiak, who previously worked with him for three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Cousins, 37, was released by the Atlanta Falcons less than a month ago after a two-year stint that included a four-year, $180 million contract. The Falcons drafted quarterback Michael Penix Jr. just six weeks after signing Cousins, a move that surprised the veteran. Coming off a torn Achilles in 2023, Cousins led Atlanta to a 6-3 start in 2024 before an arm injury affected his performance.

Last season, Cousins completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. His 47.6 QBR ranked 22nd in the league. The fourth-round pick by Washington in 2012 has passed for 44,700 yards with 298 touchdowns and 131 interceptions in 14 NFL seasons. The Raiders' decision to sign Cousins while preparing to draft a rookie quarterback creates an interesting dynamic for the upcoming season.
