The New York Jets traded special teams player Irv Charles to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, a source confirmed to ESPN. Charles, 29, was dealt for a 2028 conditional seventh-round pick. The 6-foot-4 special teams specialist had fallen off the radar after missing the entire 2025 season recovering from ACL surgery.

Charles made the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and played in 25 games over two seasons. Primarily a special teams contributor, he logged more than 400 snaps on special teams and made 14 tackles as a gunner. Despite his solid contributions, his chances of making the Jets roster this season appeared unlikely after the knee injury.

The Seahawks added Charles to bolster their NFL top-ranked special teams unit. Seattle coordinator Jay Harbaugh gains another piece after the team drafted Kansas wide receiver Emmanuel Henderson Jr. in the sixth round. The Athletic first reported the trade, which gives Charles an opportunity with a championship organization while the Jets acquire future draft capital.
