Houston Texans safety Jalen Pitre has become the first signature athlete for Guardian Caps, a company that produces padded helmets designed to enhance protection against head injuries. Pitre, who suffered a concussion last season, finished the year wearing the caps in the Texans' final eight games and became the first player in franchise history to wear them in a regular-season game.

"Regardless of the level you play at, protection is the most important thing," Pitre stated. "Be proactive. Don't wait until after you get a concussion. This is about continuing to push the game forward. Think about your safety now because that's what you'll have when you leave the game."

Guardian Caps, approved in April 2024, were worn by 24 players last season, including notable names like Romeo Doubs and Jabrill Peppers. Introduced in 2010, the soft-padded outer layer aims to absorb and redistribute impact force. The league mandated the caps for certain position groups during training camps in 2022 and 2023, reportedly leading to a nearly 50% concussion reduction for those groups.
