Running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. is on track to rejoin the Jacksonville Jaguars after foot surgery. The team expects him to be fully cleared for training camp, coach Liam Coen confirmed following Tuesday’s minicamp drills. Rodriguez missed OTAs and the first mandatory minicamp session due to the injury sustained during offseason conditioning. His absence has forced the coaching staff to reshuffle the running back rotation throughout summer drills.

Rodriguez signed a two‑year, $10 million deal in March to fill the void left by Travis Etienne Jr., who departed for New Orleans on a four‑year, $52 million contract. In his three seasons with Washington, Rodriguez logged 920 rushing yards and ten touchdowns, numbers the Jaguars hope will translate to a more balanced ground attack this year. Those stats placed him among the league’s most efficient short‑yard specialists.

Second‑year backs Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. have carried the bulk of rushing duties while Rodriguez recovered, giving them valuable reps. Coen believes Rodriguez’s return will restore depth and give the offense a versatile weapon, especially after losing Etienne’s production. The coaching staff also plans to integrate him into pass‑catching schemes. Jacksonville now aims to solidify its backfield before the regular season kicks off.
