Washington Commanders defensive end/linebacker Dorance Armstrong has been suspended without pay for the season opener due to a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The suspension, announced by the NFL, will commence on August 30 and Armstrong will be eligible for reinstatement on September 14. This means he will miss the Commanders' Week 1 matchup against Philadelphia and their Week 2 game versus Dallas.

Armstrong is still recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 7 last season, an injury that occurred when he was leading the team with 5.5 sacks. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp but was activated on August 7 and has been participating in individual drills. Armstrong is slated to play outside linebacker in the base defense and defensive end in the nickel defense.
