Commanders Lock Up Tunsil With Record Deal

The Washington Commanders secured left tackle Laremy Tunsil with a two-year extension worth $60.2 million, including a $32.5 million signing bonus — the highest ever for an offensive lineman. The deal guarantees $61.5 million and makes Tunsil the first offensive lineman to earn $30 million per season.

Washington acquired Tunsil last year in a trade with Houston that sent two draft picks in 2025 (second and fourth round) and two in 2024 (third and seventh round). General manager Adam Peters had called Tunsil one of the NFL's best tackles and expressed confidence an extension would get done quickly.

The move prevents a potential standoff similar to what receiver Terry McLaurin experienced last season, when he held out through training camp before reaching an agreement. Miami drafted Tunsil 13th overall in 2016, and he made five Pro Bowls with Houston after being traded in 2019.
