The Indianapolis Colts have signed former Notre Dame basketball forward Carson Towt to a free agent contract, converting him to tight end. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Towt, who led the Irish in rebounding this season, played his final game in last week's ACC tournament before turning his attention to football.

Towt's transition mirrors the successful path of former VCU basketball player Mo Alie-Cox, who signed a new contract with the Colts this week entering his ninth NFL season as a tight end. Towt said he connected with Alie-Cox during his decision-making process, finding inspiration in Alie-Cox's journey from basketball to football without prior experience.

The Colts' willingness to take a chance on Towt reflects their history of finding success with basketball-to-football conversions. Towt, who led the nation in rebounding while at Northern Arizona in 2024-25 and was a unanimous Big Sky all-defensive team selection, sees his physical gifts and rebounding ability as assets that translate to the football field.
