Colts QB Anthony Richardson Reports for Work Amid Trade Uncertainty

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson confirmed his presence at voluntary offseason workouts despite his unresolved trade request. The 2023 No. 4 overall pick is competing for the backup role behind Daniel Jones while his future remains unclear. Richardson emphasized his contractual obligations, stating he's focused on performing if called upon.

Daniel Jones recently signed an $88 million contract to serve as the Colts' starter, pushing Richardson into a potential No. 2 role battle with Riley Leonard. Coach Shane Steichen indicated Leonard provides a solid alternative if Richardson departs. The quarterback room now features an open competition while Jones continues recovering from his torn Achilles injury.

Richardson's agent approached general manager Chris Ballard about a trade in February, though no deal materialized. After staying away initially, Richardson grew impatient waiting for movement and decided to rejoin practice. He's working with the first-team offense during Jones' limited participation, showcasing throws that suggest full recovery from last year's orbital bone fracture.

In three seasons, Richardson has endured two season-ending injuries and been benched multiple times. His presence at organized team activities signals acceptance that he may remain in Indianapolis for the 2026 season, at least until another opportunity arises.
