United States midfielder Sebastian Berhalter has transferred from the Vancouver Whitecaps to English Championship side Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee. Berhalter, whose contract with the MLS club was set to expire at the end of 2026, will now play in England's second tier.

Berhalter, 25, played in all five of the U.S. games during the recent FIFA World Cup, including a start where he recorded a goal and an assist against Türkiye. He expressed his desire to "keep getting better as a player and person" at Middlesbrough.

He previously joined the Whitecaps in February 2022, making 167 appearances and scoring 20 goals. At Middlesbrough, he will reunite with former teammate Aidan Morris. Berhalter was also selected to the MLS Best XI last year, helping the Whitecaps reach the MLS Cup final.
