Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard expressed confidence in reaching contract extensions with quarterback Daniel Jones and wide receiver Alec Pierce before free agency begins March 11. Ballard described negotiations as "very positive," noting both sides are motivated to complete deals that would keep the offensive duo together after their breakout 2024 season.

Pierce set career highs with 47 catches for 1,003 yards and led the NFL with 21.3 yards per reception, while Jones posted a 90.4 QBR when targeting him. The projected franchise tag values of $47.3 million for quarterbacks and $28.8 million for receivers make long-term deals more attractive. "It's been very positive," Ballard said. "When both sides are driven to get it done, it usually works out in the right way."

The negotiations come as the Colts navigate Jones' recovery from a torn Achilles that ended his season early and their quarterback depth chart including 2023 fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson, who has been cleared to play after an orbital fracture. Ballard emphasized his belief in both players while acknowledging the business realities of the NFL.
