Browns QB Decision Delayed After Minicamp

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken announced he won't name a starting quarterback after mandatory minicamp concludes Thursday, leaving the QB competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders unresolved. Monken stated both quarterbacks have played well enough to earn the right to compete, with neither clearly separating themselves during the Browns' offseason workouts.

The two signal-callers have split first-team practice reps throughout the offseason program. During minicamp, Sanders received all starting reps in 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday, while Watson worked with the second-team offense. Monken confirmed Watson will handle first-team reps Wednesday, with the pair splitting duties Thursday in a continued evaluation process.

"I like both of them," Monken said, explaining the decision is complicated by the absence of padded practices and preseason games. The Browns now head to training camp with an unclear depth chart at quarterback position, a situation Monken previously expressed he'd prefer to resolve but now admits he hasn't seen enough to make a definitive choice. The coach acknowledged he "leans one way or the other" daily regarding his preference between the two players.
