His agent, Tom Mills, informed him Monday evening while Mayfield was at the movies watching the 20th anniversary of "Cars." General manager Jason Licht and assistant GM Mike Greenberg pursued the deal after Mayfield expressed frustration with earlier offers. Mayfield told Mills he was "done talking about it" until after the season, except if the Bucs made a competitive final offer.

The Bucs' previous proposal was two years and just north of $50 million. Mayfield broke from team norms by publicly discussing contract details, which Licht praised as authentic. The agreement secures Mayfield's future in Tampa.
