Federal prosecutors sentenced Alexander Esteban Huaiquil-Chavez to 24 months in prison Thursday for his role in a series of burglaries targeting professional athletes across multiple states. The 25-year-old Chilean national pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen property in March, with credit applied for time served since his January arrest.

The theft ring struck the Memphis home of Grizzlies guard Ja Morant in December 2024, making off with approximately $1 million in luxury items including watches, jewelry and designer bags. Authorities also connected the group to a burglary at Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow's residence in Ohio. Federal investigators say the Chilean nationals systematically targeted high-profile athletes nationwide.

Three additional suspects remain in custody as their cases continue in federal court. Sergio Andres Cabello, Bastian Alejandro Morales and Jordan Francisco Sanchez face similar charges in the Ohio investigation. Judge Thomas L. Parker allowed continuances for plea negotiations, with a status conference scheduled for July 8.

Huaiquil-Chavez's attorney requested no supervised release due to pending immigration proceedings. The defendant overstayed his visa and faces deportation upon completing his sentence, with severe restrictions on any future return to the United States.
