Golden State Warriors acquired center Kristaps Porzingis from Atlanta, sending Buddy Hield and Jonathan Kuminga the other way. The move shores up their frontcourt ahead of a crucial stretch with playoff implications.

Porzingis has missed most of the season with POTS and Achilles issues, limiting him to just 17 games. Still, coach Steve Kerr believes he’s close to returning and fits the team’s long-sought need for size and rim protection.

The Warriors had initially pursued Giannis Antetokounmpo but shifted focus when Milwaukee held firm. Porzingis, who had an expiring $30.7M deal, was a fallback target. His arrival adds uncertainty but also upside as Golden State pushes for a Western Conference playoff spot.

With Jimmy Butler out for the season, the Warriors needed a boost. While Porzingis’ health remains a question, his talent could elevate their ceiling if he stays on the court come postseason.
