Tari Eason Re-Signs with Rockets on $81.5M Deal

Tari Eason will return to the Houston Rockets after agreeing to a five-year, $81.5 million contract that is fully guaranteed, according to ESPN sources. The 25-year-old forward was a restricted free agent this summer after failing to reach an extension agreement with Houston before the October deadline.

The Rockets drafted Eason with the 17th pick in 2022, and he has developed into one of their most reliable wing defenders. Last season marked a career high with 25 minutes per game across 60 contests and 34 starts, averaging 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest.

Eason's path to this deal included overcoming a significant lower left leg injury during his second NBA season that raised durability concerns. Those questions contributed to the failed extension talks last fall, when his representatives sought more guaranteed money despite Houston's substantial offer.

He earned $5.7 million in 2025-26 during the final year of his rookie contract. Eason's playoff performance justified the investment, as he raised his scoring to 12.8 points per game on 47.7% shooting. This signing locks up a core piece of Houston's young roster through the remainder of the decade.
