LaMelo Ball Relieved After Adebayo Injury Fallout

LaMelo Ball expressed relief that Miami’s Bam Adebayo escaped a serious injury after the Hornets point guard tripped the Heat big man early in the second quarter of Tuesday’s overtime Play‑In win. NBA officials classified the incident as a flagrant‑2 foul, fining Ball $35,000 and an additional $25,000 for post‑game profanity. Ball avoided suspension and was cleared to play Friday’s matchup against Orlando.

After the game, Ball said he sought out Adebayo in the locker room to apologize, but the center was still in the shower and declined conversation. Video from a January 2024 clash showed Ball previously grabbing at Adebayo’s leg, prompting Ball to stress there was “no history” between them. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra called the play “dirty and dangerous” but felt the league’s penalty was sufficient.

With the Hornets eyeing the eighth seed, Ball insisted the incident no longer occupies his mind, focusing on ending Charlotte’s nine‑year playoff drought. He kept his composure during Friday’s shootaround, noting that as long as Adebayo is okay, his own performance can take precedence. The outcome of the Magic‑Hornets game will determine which team advances in the Eastern Conference Play‑In.
