The Los Angeles Lakers are acquiring center Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz in exchange for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, plus swap rights in 2028 and 2030. The move comes after Kessler rejected Utah's five-year, $140 million extension offer in June. The Jazz, who also failed to reach an extension agreement last summer, have since acquired Jaren Jackson Jr. and re-signed Jusuf Nurkic, creating a crowded frontcourt situation. LeBron James recently informed the Lakers he'll play elsewhere next season, accelerating their rebuild timeline.

Kessler missed all but five games last season following November shoulder surgery, but his track record suggests immediate impact potential. The Lakers gain a proven rebounder who can anchor their defense while providing veteran presence during their post-LeBron transition period.
