Jalen Duren Set to Meet with Lakers, Kings in Free Agency

Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren will meet with the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings when NBA free agency opens Tuesday, according to sources. The Lakers have cap space available and received input from Luka Doncic about adding an "A-list center," making Duren a logical target. Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game last season while shooting 65% from the field.

The 22-year-old big man earned his first All-Star selection and made All-NBA third team as Detroit posted 60 wins and secured the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, his playoff performance dropped to 10.2 points on 51.4% shooting before the Pistons fell to Cleveland in the second round. Detroit can match any offer within 48 hours as Duren remains a restricted free agent.

Sacramento would need to pursue a sign-and-trade deal involving Domantas Sabonis, who has two years and $94 million left on his contract. The Pistons reportedly have no interest in facilitating such a move. Los Angeles currently has only Deandre Ayton on the roster at center after he exercised his $8.1 million option.

The Lakers already committed to a four-year, $185 million extension with Austin Reaves and still must address free agents LeBron James, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes and Luke Kennard. Any offer sheet for Duren would tie up their cap space while Detroit decides whether to match, complicating roster construction for both teams.
