Durant Blames Himself as Lakers' Defense Stifles Rockets

Kevin Durant took responsibility for the Houston Rockets' offensive collapse in a 100-92 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night. The Lakers' defense, which has shown recent improvement, threw double-teams at Durant throughout the fourth quarter, holding Houston to just 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting while forcing nine turnovers.

The Lakers' defensive intensity marked a stark contrast to their earlier-season struggles. Los Angeles ranks 20th in defensive efficiency but has won nine of their past 10 games by giving up only 109.3 points per 100 possessions during that stretch. Luka Doncic led the Lakers with 36 points on 14-of-27 shooting, while LeBron James added 18 points including several highlight dunks.

Durant, who scored only two points in the second half and committed seven turnovers, questioned his role as primary ball-handler in late-game situations. Without Alperen Sengun due to lower back pain, the Rockets' offense became even more predictable when defenses targeted Durant. The loss dropped Houston's lead over the Lakers in the Western Conference standings to just 1½ games, with the teams set to meet again Wednesday night in Houston.
