Cooper Flagg Rookie Jersey Sells for $1 Million

A jersey worn by Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg during the first half of his NBA debut has sold privately for $1 million, setting a record for both a Flagg collectible and any jersey sold through NBA Auctions. The historic sale was facilitated by Sotheby's, the prestigious auction house that has become increasingly involved in sports memorabilia.

The record-breaking jersey was worn during Flagg's regular-season debut on October 22, where he recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 125-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. This season, the 19-year-old has already made history as the NBA's youngest player to score 40 points in a game and set the single-game scoring record for teenagers with 49 points. Flagg's rapid ascent has created significant demand for his memorabilia.

The previous record for an NBA debut jersey was $762,000 for the second-half jersey worn by Victor Wembanyama during his 2023 debut. Sotheby's is capitalizing on the growing market with its upcoming NBA Rookie Debut Auction from March 17-23, featuring jerseys from other top rookies including VJ Edgecombe, Kon Knueppel, and Dylan Harper.
