Banned NBA player Jontay Porter has signed with the Seattle SuperHawks of the newly re-created United States Basketball League. The league announced Porter's signing Wednesday as the team prepares to begin its season on March 7. Porter, banned for life by the NBA in 2024 after pleading guilty to federal gambling charges, now looks to continue his professional basketball career outside the NBA.

Porter pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, a felony carrying up to 20 years in prison, though he expects a 3-4 year sentence when sentenced. NBA investigators found he manipulated his performance with the Toronto Raptors to win prop bets and personally wagered on 13 games he didn't play in, winning $22,000. Federal prosecutors expanded the probe to include others like Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups.

The SuperHawks represent Porter's first opportunity to play since the NBA banned for life in 2024. Previously, Porter had attempted to play for a team in Greece but was denied. The move marks a significant shift for the former NBA player who appeared in 37 games over two seasons before his gambling violations ended his career in the league, leaving him to seek alternative professional basketball opportunities.
