Zac Brown Band Takes Over Sunday Night Baseball Theme Song

Zac Brown Band joins an elite group, stepping in to provide the new opening for NBC's 'Sunday Night Baseball' coverage. The Grammy winners offer a reimagined take on Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 'Karn Evil 9, 1st Impression Part 2.' This musical tie-in aligns perfectly with the long-standing baseball moniker, 'The Show,' referenced in the original track's lyrics.

Band frontman Zac Brown expressed genuine humility about the association, placing his group alongside established theme artists like Carrie Underwood and Lenny Kravitz. NBC Sports creative director Tripp Dixon confirmed the selection hinged on the organ sounds and the lyric, 'Welcome back, my friends to the show that never ends.' All three major sports theme songs share the underlying theme of 'waiting all day for Sunday night.'

This debut carries extra weight for Brown, a Georgia native, as the premiere broadcast features his hometown team, the Atlanta Braves, hosting the Cleveland Guardians. Major League Baseball and NBC finalized a three-year agreement last November for Sunday night broadcasts and playoff coverage. The initial run sees games split between Peacock and NBCSN before the main network takes over later in May.

The production, shot in Milwaukee, reflects a genuine collaboration between the band and the network production team, according to Brown. Following this launch, the next six weeks of coverage will air predominantly on the Peacock streaming service.
