The Detroit Tigers placed left-handed reliever Brant Hurter on the 15-day injured list with lumbar spine inflammation Saturday, a retroactive move to May 23. Hurter exited Friday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth inning after a pitch to Tyler O'Neill.

Manager A.J. Hinch expressed confidence in his reliever's importance to the staff. "He's part of our attack plan on every lineup. I trust him, especially against lefties. It's another injury we're going to need to deal with." Hurter has been a reliable arm in his third season, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.84 ERA across 21 appearances.

Detroit recalled right-hander Ricky Vanasco from Triple-A Toledo to fill the roster spot. Vanasco has struggled in four MLB games this year, going 0-1 with a 14.54 ERA. The Tigers' bullpen depth faces an immediate test as they navigate this latest injury setback.
