Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh took his first swings since being placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. The switch hitter took 30 moderate-intensity swings off a tee in Arizona, with general manager Justin Hollander noting he's progressing well. Hollander confirmed Raleigh is catching and throwing to 130 feet but stressed the team wants to build his return responsibly.

Raleigh's struggles this season have been significant, posting a .161 batting average - the lowest among all qualified MLB batters. He endured a 0 for 38 stretch from April 28 to May 12, the longest hitless streak in the majors this season. The 2025 AL MVP runner-up acknowledged he had been playing through pain on his right side before being placed on the injured list.

Meanwhile, utilityman Brendan Donovan continues recovery from a left groin strain. Hollander expects both players will need rehab assignments, citing Donovan's history of core issues following sports hernia surgery in October 2025. The Mariners are taking deliberate approaches with both injuries, determined to avoid setbacks that could derail their season.
