The Philadelphia Phillies have secured their pitching future by agreeing to a six-year contract with ace Cristopher Sanchez. The deal, which begins in 2027 and includes a team option for 2033, was announced Sunday by the team. While financial terms weren't disclosed, The Athletic reported the contract is worth $107 million over seven seasons.

Sanchez, 29, has established himself as one of baseball's premier starting pitchers. Last season he posted a 2.50 ERA in 32 starts with 212 strikeouts, finishing 13-5. The left-hander was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013 before being traded to Philadelphia in 2019. His breakout performance has coincided with the Phillies' recent success, helping them win consecutive NL East titles in 2024 and 2025.

The contract continues Philadelphia's aggressive spending on pitching, following Jesus Luzardo's $135 million deal and building on existing contracts for Zack Wheeler ($126 million) and Aaron Nola ($172 million). With rookie Andrew Painter also in the rotation, the Phillies have locked up their entire veteran staff to long-term deals as they aim for continued postseason success.
