Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is set to play as a designated hitter this weekend against the New York Yankees, following a procedure to drain fluid from his left knee. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Ohtani underwent the treatment to alleviate irritation after Sunday's game.

Ohtani, who is on vacation before the second half of the season, did not receive an injection. The four-time MVP is batting .293 with 22 homers and 58 RBIs, and his pitching record stands at 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA. He was previously ruled out of the All-Star Game.

The Dodgers begin the second half of their season on Friday with a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. It remains uncertain whether Ohtani will pitch in the series.
