Major League Baseball owners have voted to enforce a rule requiring base coaches to remain in their respective coaches' boxes until the pitch is thrown. The decision, made during the league's annual meetings in Florida, aims to curb the growing practice of pitch tipping that has become prevalent in recent years.

Coaches have increasingly moved up and down the baselines to gain better viewing angles of pitchers, allowing them to identify patterns that indicate what pitch is coming. This information is then relayed to hitters directly or indirectly through runners on second base. The issue gained prominence before Game 7 of last year's World Series when both the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers were asked to keep their coaches in their boxes.

Teams spend considerable time before games analyzing video to detect the smallest patterns by pitchers or catchers that might reveal upcoming pitches. These patterns can include body movements, finger placements, or even breathing patterns. While pregame video analysis and in-game pitch recognition aren't illegal, MLB determined that coaches moving along the baselines for better angles had become excessive.
