Mets Hold Bichette Out Again With Leg Soreness

The New York Mets kept Bo Bichette out of the starting lineup for a second consecutive game Saturday as the infielder battles soreness in both legs and his right ankle. Manager Andy Green described the issue as day-to-day but acknowledged Bichette could remain sidelined through the All-Star break for a full reset. The discomfort traces to last weekend's series in Atlanta, where Bichette went 8-for-18 but fouled multiple balls off his legs and played through the pain.

Bichette went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 7-3 win over Kansas City and owns a .320 average with two homers and 11 RBIs over his last 25 games. Overall, he's hitting .256 with 10 homers and 51 RBIs in his first season with the Mets after signing a $126 million, three-year contract in January. The deal includes opt-out clauses after each of the first two seasons. Bichette started 44 games at shortstop while Francisco Lindor recovered from a calf strain before shifting to third base.

Second baseman Marcus Semien is nearing a rehab assignment after a left hip flexor strain landed him on the injured list June 25. Acquired from Texas for Brandon Nimmo in November, Semien has missed 16 games and is batting .214 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 80 games. His rehab may not begin until after the break since the Mets' minor-league affiliates are off.

The Mets enter a three-game series against Boston without two regular infielders, testing depth at a critical juncture. If Bichette and Semien return healthy after the break, New York gains lineup stability for a postseason push; extended absences would force continued reliance on utility options and expose the thin margin behind the club's high-profile acquisitions.
