Kris Bryant's Rockies Career in Jeopardy After 60-Day IL Move

The Colorado Rockies have placed veteran slugger Kris Bryant on the 60-day injured list as his chronic back issues continue to derail his tenure in Denver. The 34-year-old designated hitter has appeared in just 11 games this season, managing only one RBI in 41 plate appearances before being shut down.

Bryant, who signed a $182 million, seven-year contract with Colorado before the 2022 season, has been limited to 170 games total since joining the Rockies. His career has been plagued by lumbar degenerative disc disease, requiring an ablation procedure last May that has yet to provide lasting relief. The move to the 60-day IL effectively ends Bryant's 2026 season.

Despite the setbacks, Bryant still has $78 million remaining on his contract over the next three seasons. The four-time All-Star, who helped the Chicago Cubs end their 108-year World Series drought in 2016, has accumulated 184 home runs and 548 RBIs over 11 MLB seasons. His inability to stay healthy raises serious questions about whether Colorado can recoup value from this massive investment.
