St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker hopes his dramatic Home Run Derby victory can inspire more Black kids to play baseball. Walker, 24, hit six consecutive home runs in the final at Citizens Bank Park to defeat hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber and win $1 million. This prize money exceeds his 2026 salary of $799,400.

Beyond the personal accolades, Walker expressed his desire to be a role model for Black youth in the sport. He hit a total of 31 home runs over three rounds, aiming to raise awareness and encourage participation. "I want to be a role model for the Black kids, you know, and I want more Black kids in baseball," Walker stated.

His win comes at a time when the percentage of Black players in Major League Baseball has seen a slight increase. From 6% in 2024, it rose to 6.2% in 2025, and reached 6.8% this season, marking the largest year-over-year increase in several years. Walker emphasized that the baseball route is open to athletic and mentally strong Black kids, encouraging them to consider the sport.
