On Tuesday, the Baseball Writers' Association of America will unveil the 2026 Hall of Fame ballot, featuring 27 players who collectively amass 1,282 WAR. Eleven of them exceed 50 career WAR, a sharp drop from the 2013 field. Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones lead the polls at 89.2 % and 83.5 % respectively, but neither has yet secured the 75 % threshold.

Compared to the 2013 ballot, which listed 37 candidates worth 1,672 WAR and 16 over 50, none were elected that year. Yet ten later entered the Hall, underscoring the ballot’s long‑term impact. Center‑fielders remain the most underrepresented position, with only four enshrined—Mays, Dawson, Puckett, and Griffey—despite the role’s historical prominence.

Voters must award a player 75 % of ballots to elect him, and a minimum of 5 % keeps a candidate on the ballot for up to ten years. Chase Utley has risen to 67.9 % in his third year, mirroring Todd Helton’s 2024 election after six ballots. Fans will watch whether the writers finally break the center‑field drought.
