Pirates rookie shortstop Konnor Griffin began a rehab assignment with Double‑A Altoona Tuesday night. The 20‑year‑old, who debuted on April 3, has been sidelined since May 31 with a right forearm strain. He is batting .270 with four homers, 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 51 games for the Pirates' young core and the club's rebuild in the current season.

Manager Don Kelly said the focus is on day‑by‑day progress and getting Griffin back into game action. He praised the challenging throws and relays that helped maintain rhythm. No timetable exists yet, but the goal is to restore arm strength, timing and batting rhythm before a return to the majors to support the Pirates' push for a playoff spot this.

Jared Jones, right‑hander, cleared his elbow after a line drive hit him in the third inning. Imaging found no damage, and if he passes a bullpen session on Wednesday, he will start against Cincinnati Saturday. The Pirates aim to keep key young talent healthy while chasing postseason contention as the team navigates a crowded division and tight playoff race today.
