Edward Cabrera delivered a masterful debut for the Chicago Cubs, pitching six shutout innings in a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander struck out five batters while allowing just one hit and one walk in his first start since being acquired from the Miami Marlins in January.

Cabrera set the tone early by striking out three-time AL MVP Mike Trout in the first inning after an eight-pitch battle. The 6-foot-5 pitcher, who turns 28 on April 13, showed excellent command of his electric arsenal, keeping Angels hitters off balance throughout his outing. Catcher Carson Kelly praised Cabrera's ability to keep batters guessing with multiple effective pitches.

Acquired for outfielder Owen Caissie and prospects Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon, Cabrera agreed to a $4.45 million, one-year contract with Chicago. The performance marked the first time a Cubs pitcher threw six shutout innings while allowing one or fewer hits and walks in a team debut since Don Cardwell in 1960.
