Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Max Kepler on Thursday, ending his 80-game suspension for a positive epitrenbolone test. The 33‑year‑old entered the lineup in left field, batting fifth against the St. Louis Cardinals. Kepler arrived in Arizona after a June 7 free‑agent deal and posted a .333 average with two homers in ten minor‑league games, as Arizona fights to rise in the NL West.

Kepler posted a .216 average with 18 homers and 52 RBIs for Philadelphia last season under a $10 million one‑year contract. Injuries limited his 2024 campaign, including left patellar tendinitis and a post‑season sports‑hernia repair. His career totals sit at .235, 179 home runs and 560 RBIs over 11 seasons. He hopes to prove his value.

To clear a roster spot, Arizona moved right‑hander Ryne Nelson to the 60‑day injured list and optioned outfielder Tim Tawa and left‑hander Mitch Bratt to Triple‑A Reno, recalling right‑hander Juan Burgos. Manager Torey Lovullo praised Kepler’s work ethic and said the veteran will help the club win immediately. The move also shuffles the bullpen depth. Kepler’s return adds power to a struggling lineup.
