Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes is targeting a return around the All-Star break, marking a significant milestone in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander, who signed a $210 million, six-year contract with Arizona before last season, spoke to reporters Tuesday before the team's first spring training workout.

Burnes, who posted a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts last season before his June 1 injury, remains optimistic about accelerating his timeline. "I think we're still good for mid-July," he told reporters, adding that he's exploring ways to return sooner. The veteran pitcher's comeback would provide a major boost to a Diamondbacks rotation already dealing with multiple injuries.

Burnes isn't alone in Arizona's injury rehab efforts. Relievers A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez are also recovering from major elbow surgeries, while lefty Andrew Saalfrank faces a full season on the sidelines after shoulder surgery. Puk hopes to return before the All-Star break following internal brace surgery, while Martinez is targeting a late-August comeback. The D-backs' pitching depth will be tested as they navigate these significant absences heading into the 2025 season.
